The School

I’ve been living in the Tuscan countryside since I was born, in the same house where my father was born and my grandmother was born. Tuscany is my daily life and the landscape I see from my bedroom window each morning.

When I am abroad, I am often asked about my country, our typical wine and food, nature and small villages sitting at the top of the hills. I started seeing my home land through the eyes of foreign people and I discovered a new point of view, new colours, fresh and primitive emotions, genuine flavours and tantalizing scents. I deeply fell in love with the vision that foreigners have of Tuscany.

Each day I discover a new sight, a new traditional dish, brand new sensations, interesting and true people: I live my experience of Tuscany with the enthusiasm of a child.

Guided by this awareness, I want to offer you the most precious gift: Tuscany from a local perspective.

The Classes

My first cooking class for foreigners dates back to 2006, and it was a way to spend a different evening with an American friend. I realized there was something special in cooking together with people belonging to different food cultures because it gave us the chance to understand us better, and I managed to show to the fullest what my region was through ingredients and cooking rituals. This is the main reason I enjoy teaching cooking classes.

Now my basic offer is a three hour hands-on cooking class during which we have the chance to create a complete menu, from appetizer to dessert, using only the freshest seasonal ingredients. Every dish is usually introduced by a family story or a local tradition, because this is how I learned to cook, listening to my grandma’s or mum’s stories in the kitchen and watching their movements among pots and pans. The class can be held in my family kitchen, located in a traditional country house in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, between Siena and Florence or, by request, in a rented villa or apartment. Along with cooking classes, there are also special one day or weeklong tours.

The School

I’ve made my home in Florence since 1984. I started Divina Cucina (originally Mangia Firenze) in 1988 with a simple aim — to share my knowledge of Italian cuisine and culinary history with fellow food lovers in and around Florence. I’ve lived in Florence among food experts and foodies, exchanging ideas and recipes, and developed my own style, one that is easy-going and entertaining. That’s the Divina Cucina style!

The Tuscans know how to prepare simple food from quality local ingredients. They make the most of regional and seasonal produce. That’s why my classes begin in the Mercato Centrale or other markets where purveyors provide the best from the Tuscan countryside.

Let me show you the secrets of Italian cooking and a way of life that I’ve come to love. Come and enjoy Tuscany like the Tuscans.

The Classes

From one day classes to one week culinary adventures.

Divina Cucina’s cooking classes are always market inspired and include shopping for your class at local artisan butchers or market day itself in the village on Friday.
Class includes Judy’s cookbook, Secrets of My Tuscan Kitchen, allowing you to use what you learn to become a Tuscan chef at home too.

The School

Just outside Rome lies a beautifully unspoilt area of Italy: the Sabine hills. Discover this little hidden corner of the Italian countryside on a stunning Monti Sabini holiday. Take part in our cooking classes, where you will be taught how to prepare authentic Sabina dishes under the guidance of a local chef. Experience the fantastic Sabina warmth and hospitality and stay in a beautiful converted farmhouse Agriturismo, surrounded by olive groves, in the heart of the peaceful Sabina countryside. During your holiday you will be shown around Sabina by a ‘native’ Sabine with a deep understanding of the local cuisine, traditions and customs in the Sabina area. No one knows this area better than our tour escorts who have lived in Sabina all their lives!

The Classes

Our cooking lessons are led by local chefs, who have an intimate understanding of the local Sabina/Roman cuisine. The ingredients used in the cooking classes are the freshest, seasonal produce available; many come from the farm surrounding the Agriturismo in which you will stay. During the cooking classes, we know that it’s not as much fun to stand around and watch, so everyone (who wants to) can ‘get their hands dirty’ having a go for themselves! For your evening meals you will enjoy the fruits of your labour, plus more mouth-watering dishes prepared for you by our chef. We will also supply you with the recipes, so you can have a go yourself at home.

In addition to the cooking classes, Monti Sabini holidays include a wonderfully varied itinerary including wine and olive oil tasting, walking in the beautiful Sabine hills and visiting the local medieval hilltop villages and local important historical sites such as Farfa Abbey. The holidays are inclusive of transport around Sabina, meals, accommodation, wine and olive oil tasting, as well as the cooking classes and other activities in the itinerary. So all you have to do is sit back and relax! We can also arrange customised holidays for larger groups booking at the same time.
